HISTORICAL ACADIAN TREE

400 years of history

A NATION’S IDENTITY

The historical tree reflects a nation’s identity, the evolution of 400 years of rich Acadian history, Canada’s Diverse Heritage. Many Acadian symbols are carved starting with individuals holding hands representing the Acadian motto ''STRENGH THROUGH UNITY''. With the first settler’s arrival in 1604, explorer Samuel de Champlain discovered Ste-Croix Island. Depicting the first nation’s trading industry, from colonization to cultivation and dyke constructions, we can also see the costumes as well as the traditional Acadian home, Acadia’s British Invasion, hardship and 1755’s Deportation follows with legendary figure and heroine Evangeline and Grand-Pré church. Acadian’s pride is also shown through music and fishing industry, an important part of our economy. At the very top, four little stars representing four centuries are carved inside a big star, a very distinctive mark.

My pride for my culture and country!

Monette Léger

A list of the most common family names before the Deportation is engraved at the base of the Historical Acadian Tree.
