Profile
Helena Bourque is a native of Grand-Barachois. Fisherman’s daughter having grown up by the sea, this influence is often depicted in her paintings. From an early age, she enjoyed creating via various mediums. Leaving aside her pattern books, she already lets her creativity emerge. She mainly explores textiles and painting. She draws inspiration from nature, the ocean and the beach, which is often represented in her paintings. The colours of nature and the ocean as well as the texture of leaves, waves and sand seem to come out in her artwork. Her paintings become her form of meditation. Considering herself self-taught, she continues to expand her knowledge by attending workshops with different artists. She enjoys reading, doing research and observing to perfect her techniques. She is an active member of the SAPC (Shediac Artist Painters Committee), Groupe des huit, Hookeuses de Bor’de’lo, as well as the Shediac Arts Council. She took part in numerous group exhibits with these different groups.
